GIFFORDS Statement on Shooting in Lewiston, Maine
Washington DC — Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, founder of the gun violence prevention organization GIFFORDS, released the following statement after a mass shooting at multiple locations in Lewiston, Maine. It is reported that at least 18 people have been killed and 13 people injured.
Former Congresswoman Gabrille Giffords:
“At least 18 people were killed and more than 13 people injured because of a senseless act of gun violence. It doesn’t have to be this way and it shouldn’t be this way. Entire communities shouldn’t have to live in fear of an active shooting. My heart breaks for the Lewiston community, the victims, and the survivors. Earlier this week, I visited Uvalde and met with the families and survivors of that mass shooting. I’m angry that yet another community has to experience this pain. Our leaders must act.”
Maine received an F on GIFFORDS Law Center’s Annual Gun Law Scorecard.
