GIFFORDS PAC Endorses Lisa Blunt Rochester for US Senate

Washington DC — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, announced its endorsement of Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester of Delaware for election to the US Senate.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:

“Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester is an unparalleled champion for her state. Because of her work to fund lifesaving community violence intervention programs, families from Wilmington to Dover are safer. Yet there is so much more that needs to be done to create a better future for the next generation. Now more than ever, we need determined leaders like Lisa Blunt Rochester in the US Senate to break through the gridlock in Washington and pass legislation that will save lives. I know she’ll never tire in this fight, and I am proud to endorse her historic campaign today.”

Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester:

“We cannot turn a blind eye to the devastating toll that gun violence takes on our communities and families. We must take bold, decisive action to break the cycle of violence and save lives. In the House, I have worked across the aisle to enact meaningful gun safety reforms that will make a real difference for our nation, and I will do it in the Senate too. It’s our moral obligation to take meaningful action to protect our children, families, neighbors, and loved ones.”

Just three years after her hometown was deemed “Murder Town, USA” by a national publication, Congresswoman Blunt Rochester made history in 2017 by becoming the first woman and the first African American to represent Delaware in Congress. In office, she’s made every effort to reverse the trends plaguing her hometown and has supported an assault weapons ban, universal background checks, and legislation to raise the firearm purchasing age from 18 to 21. She knows that gun violence is a public health issue and a matter of national security, and has worked across the aisle to pass critical legislation like the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first major federal gun safety bill signed into law in nearly 30 years. Congresswoman Blunt Rochester also co-leads the Break the Cycle of Violence Act, a landmark piece of legislation that would allocate $5 billion for community-based violence intervention programs and $1.5 billion for youth workforce training.
