Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Remembers Victims of Shooting in Thousand Oaks, California, Five Years Later
Washington DC — Today, former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, founder of the gun safety organization GIFFORDS, released the following statement honoring the victims of the mass shooting in Thousand Oaks, California. Five years ago today, 12 people were shot and killed and 16 more were injured at a restaurant frequented by college students.
Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:
“Twelve families are marking a difficult milestone today: It’s been five years since they’ve seen, hugged, or heard the laughter of their loved ones taken in the mass shooting in Thousand Oaks. It’s been five years since the lives of 16 others were forever changed when they were shot and injured at the restaurant. A night out should never be interrupted by gunfire, but we’ve witnessed this scene too many times since, including in Lewiston, Maine, just a few weeks ago. California has taken many steps to stop gun violence, but this must be a nationwide effort.”
