Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Remembers Victims, Survivors One Year after Mass Shooting in Monterey Park
Washington DC — Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, founder of gun violence prevention group GIFFORDS, released the following statement honoring the victims and survivors of the mass shooting in Monterey Park, California, last year. The gunman entered the Star Ballroom Dance Studio during a Lunar New Year’s Eve party, killing 11 people and injuring nine more.
Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:
“Today, my heart is with the survivors and families who lost loved ones at a dance studio in Monterey Park. In the year since, I’ve been inspired by those who refused to have their joy taken away and found healing in dancing once again. I am also thinking of Brandon Tsay, who heroically confronted and disarmed the gunman, ultimately saving lives. Our leaders in Congress must have the same courage to stand up to the gun lobby and protect the Asian American community from gun violence.”
