GIFFORDS: Liable Verdict in NRA Trial Is No Surprise

Jury in New York finds top NRA executives liable for financial misconduct

Washington DC — Today, GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement reacting to the jury’s verdict in Attorney General of The State of New York v. NRA.

Emma Brown, Executive Director of GIFFORDS

“This verdict is no surprise, and it’s only the beginning of legal consequences for the NRA’s financial wrongdoing and abuse. The NRA has long been toppled from its seat of power, entrenched in scandal and extremism. Responsible gun owners have found a home at GIFFORDS instead, using their critical voices to fight for a safer America.”

During Wayne La Pierre’s tenure, the NRA was engaged in widespread corruption. Among other things, the NRA has engaged in a scheme to make at least $35 million in excessive contributions to political candidates in violation of federal campaign finance laws. GIFFORDS has sued the NRA over these violations.
