25 Years after School Shooting at Columbine: ‘Never Give Up’

Gabby Giffords attended vigil in Colorado, remembers survivors and victims of Columbine mass shooting

Washington DC — Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, founder of the national gun violence prevention organization GIFFORDS, spoke at a vigil last night in Denver, Colorado, honoring the victims and survivors of the mass shooting at Columbine High School 25 years ago. Survivors, gun safety advocates, and community members gathered to remember the 13 lives lost and continue the fight to end gun violence.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords

“No matter how many years pass, I know the pain of losing a loved one to gun violence or living through a shooting never truly goes away. For the last 25 years, survivors of the shooting at Columbine High School have bravely shared their stories, and I was inspired to hear them at the vigil last night. I will always hold them close to my heart.

“The fight to end gun violence is a long, hard haul. But the community that gathered last night proved that we are stronger together. As we mourned the lives lost or forever changed at Columbine High School 25 years ago, we also looked ahead to the future. The gun violence prevention movement is now stronger than ever, and we will never give up on the safer future we all deserve.”
