GIFFORDS PAC Endorses Adam Schiff for US Senate in California
Washington DC — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, endorsed California Congressman Adam Schiff in the race to fill California’s US Senate seat last held by the late gun safety champion, Senator Dianne Feinstein. In the Senate, Congressman Schiff will continue his work to hold the gun industry accountable and push our country forward in the fight against gun violence.
Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords
“For decades, Congressman Adam Schiff has worked tirelessly to bolster public safety and earned a reputation as one of our country’s foremost gun safety champions. I’m proud to endorse him in this critical election because I know that he will never tire in the pursuit of saving lives. I served with Adam in Congress and have admired his relentless work to hold the gun industry accountable for their contributions to our country’s epidemic of violence. I look forward to working with him hand in hand to hold the gun industry accountable and ensure survivors can have their day in court. In the Senate, I know Adam will make all Californians proud by striving to implement lifesaving policies toward a safer future.”
Congressman Adam Schiff
“The terrible scourge of gun violence continues to take so many innocent lives, and my Republican colleagues in Congress refuse to act. GIFFORDS PAC is leading the effort to get commonsense gun reforms passed and to elect leaders who will fight for a safer future for our kids and communities. In Congress, I’ve taken on the gun lobby as I pushed for gun safety reforms, including my bill to repeal the gun industry’s immunity from liability—a bill President Biden has called his number one priority. When I am in the US Senate, I am going to fight to abolish the filibuster so we can actually get these reforms passed, require background checks for every gun sold, ban assault weapons, and strengthen red flag laws. I am grateful to be endorsed by GIFFORDS PAC, and I am committed to continuing our important work together.”
For more than 20 years, Congressman Schiff has worked in the US House to protect communities from gun violence. In 2013, he introduced landmark legislation to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCCA), which provided exceptional legal immunity for the gun industry. He has also supported several key pieces of gun safety legislation including large-capacity magazine bans, measures to properly fund gun violence research, and criminalize gun trafficking. In 2022, he also helped pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first federal gun safety law in 26 years.
