Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Remembers Victims, Survivors One Year after Shooting in Allen, Texas

Washington DC — Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, founder of the national gun violence prevention group GIFFORDS, released the following statement honoring the victims and survivors of the mass shooting at a mall in Allen, Texas, last year. The gunman, who was a neo-Nazi, killed eight people and injured seven more at Allen Premium Outlets.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords

“Today, I’m thinking of the lives that were forever changed in Allen, Texas last year. A day at the mall should never turn into pain and chaos, yet one year ago, people were running for their lives and eight people didn’t make it home. Gun violence and white supremacist hate destroys lives—we witnessed it last year and continue to see the deadly impact of both. I will always stand against armed hate and fight to keep every community safe.”

Next week, the National Rifle Association will host its convention in Dallas, less than 50 miles from the Allen mall where the shooting occurred.
