GIFFORDS PAC endorses Eugene DePasquale for Pennsylvania attorney general

WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, endorsed former Auditor General Eugene DePasquale for attorney general of Pennsylvania.

“For too long, everyday Pennsyvlanians have suffered from senseless gun violence. GIFFORDS PAC is proud to endorse a strong gun safety champion like Eugene DePasquale to be the next attorney general of Pennsylvania,” said former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. “We’ve seen commonsense gun safety laws come under attack across the country, and it’s imperative that residents of the Keystone State have a fighter who will push back against bad actors who are putting profits ahead of public safety. As a former legislator and auditor general, Eugene DePasquale has proven that he is the champion that our communities and families can trust—and I know that as attorney general he will help build a safer Pennsylvania for the next generation.”

“We cannot sit idly by while so many Pennsylvanians are killed or injured by firearms. Having a civil discussion about firearms has become difficult in today’s polarized political environment, but we all must start talking and listening to each other,” former Auditor General Eugene DePasquale said. “As PA’s next Attorney General, I will work with anybody, including sporting groups, safety advocates, law enforcement, medical and mental health practitioners, firearm dealers, and domestic violence prevention advocates, to find effective ways to curb firearm deaths and injuries while also protecting the constitutional rights of gun owners. That’s what Pennsylvanians want—it’s what they deserve.”

DePasquale has a 20-year record of supporting commonsense gun safety laws, including measures to fund community-based gun safety efforts and invest in suicide prevention programs.

As Pennsylvania’s auditor general, he conducted a year-long investigation into firearm safety, with input from sporting groups, safety advocates, law enforcement, medical and mental health practitioners, firearm dealers, and domestic violence prevention advocates that led to a special report outlining 12 recommendations to curb deaths and injuries without impacting the constitutional rights of gun owners.
