Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords pays tribute to survivors and victims of tragedy in Highland Park shooting
WASHINGTON — Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, founder of the national gun violence prevention organization GIFFORDS, released the following statement honoring the seven people killed and dozens more injured in a mass shooting that occurred two years ago on the Fourth of July in Highland Park, Illinois.
“Two years ago, a day meant to celebrate the freedom and liberty of our country was scarred by gun violence,” said former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. “As we remember those we lost and honor the resilience of survivors, we also recognize the wave of advocacy and activism that emerged, driven by the determination to transform grief into meaningful change. This courage has been instrumental in pushing for legislation to ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines as well as laws aimed at holding the gun industry accountable in Illinois. We stand alongside the Highland Park community and remain committed to our mission to reduce gun violence and prevent further tragedies.”
