GIFFORDS PAC endorses Senator Martin Heinrich for reelection

WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, endorsed U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM) for reelection.

“It is critical for New Mexicans to reelect my friend Martin Heinrich to the U.S. Senate,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Senator Heinrich has been a leader on gun safety and is committed to finding the common ground needed to make progress happen. From introducing the GOSAFE Act, to supporting the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, he is committed to stopping gun violence — and I’m so proud to stand with him in this must-win election.”

“Every New Mexican, and every American, deserves to be safe in their home, school, and community. I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of the GIFFORDS PAC and value our shared dedication to passing meaningful reforms that save lives and uphold public safety. Together we will continue to fight for a safer America, free from the scourge of gun violence,” said Senator Martin Heinrich.

Senator Martin Heinrich is committed to helping others and building a safer and more prosperous future for New Mexico’s children and families. In 2022, he joined with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first major gun safety legislation signed into law in nearly 30 years. In 2023, he also introduced the historic GOSAFE Act, which would limit the sale of the deadly gas-operated semiautomatic guns used in countless mass shootings. And after the Supreme Court overturned the federal ban on bump stocks earlier this year, Senator Heinrich introduced the BUMP Act to permanently codify prohibitions on the sale of devices that allow semiautomatic weapons to rapidly fire multiple rounds like machine guns.

Throughout his time in office, Senator Heinrich has also been at the forefront of addressing the international dimensions of crime. In 2022, he successfully criminalized the trafficking of firearms into Mexico, aiming to disrupt the flow of illegal weapons that contribute to violence both in Mexico and the Northern Triangle.
