GIFFORDS: JD Vance puts gun industry profits ahead of safe communities

WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released a statement after Ohio Senator JD Vance accepted the Republican National Committee’s nomination as vice president on the ticket of former president Donald Trump.

“Despite what you heard tonight, Donald Trump and JD Vance have promised the gun lobby they would repeal President Biden’s popular, bipartisan gun safety law that finally criminalized trafficking guns to violent drug cartels,” said GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown. “Last weekend’s horrific assassination attempt demonstrated that no level of security can guarantee anyone’s safety—not even a former president’s—when dangerous people have easy access to weapons of war. Republicans and Democrats alike are concerned about gun violence in this country, yet Donald Trump and JD Vance have consistently put gun industry profits over the safety of American communities. We owe it to future generations to keep this pair out of the White House.”

Senator JD Vance’s Record:

  • Senator Vance has been endorsed by the NRA and it spent nearly $500,000 to elect him in 2022.
  • Senator Vance supports concealed carry reciprocity and extremist judges. He opposes universal background checks and has called red flag laws “a slippery slope.”
  • Senator Vance pledged to abolish the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF).
