GUN SAFETY VICTORY: Angela Alsobrooks elected to the US Senate
WASHINGTON –GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, congratulated Sen.-elect Angela Alsobrooks on her election to the United States Senate, an especially groundbreaking victory as she becomes Maryland’s first Black senator. As a prosecutor and as county executive, Alsobrooks witnessed the effects of lax gun safety laws in her community every day, and she is committed to ending gun violence through commonsense legislation. GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown campaigned on behalf of Alsobrooks on Election Day.
“Angela Alsobrooks is a staunch supporter of smart gun safety regulation, and GIFFORDS is proud to have endorsed her. She is committed to fighting the gun lobby by eliminating the legal protections that enable gun sellers and manufacturers to escape accountability, and unlike her competitor, Alsobrooks is unafraid to support the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which is crucial to reducing police violence,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.
“This year, Maryland took major strides in gun safety that few states in the nation have yet to emulate, but there is still work to do on a national level. As gun violence rates continue to rise, I have no doubt that Sen.-elect Alsobrooks’ unwavering strength and dedication will propel our country forward in the fight to end gun violence,” added Giffords.
