Gabby Giffords: Thank you, President Biden and Vice President Harris

WASHINGTON — Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, founder of the national gun violence prevention organization GIFFORDS, released the following statement thanking President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for four years of unprecedented progress in the fight for gun safety.

“These past four years, I have had the privilege of working with President Biden and Vice President Harris to save lives across our country. This administration has earned numerous crucial victories, but closest to my heart are the landmark achievements in the fight to stop gun violence that has made this the strongest gun safety administration America has ever seen,” saidformer Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

“When President Biden ushered the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act into law, America saw its first bipartisan federal action against the gun lobby in nearly three decades. Two years later, it is saving lives through commonsense firearm laws, community violence intervention, mental health services, and school safety programs. The president and vice president continued to forge ahead by empowering the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), creating the first-ever Office of Gun Violence Prevention, and investing upwards of $400 million dollars in community violence intervention programs, among other efforts.

“From the bottom of my heart, I thank you both for your unwavering leadership and dedication to our country. Our nation is safer because of your service,” Giffords concluded.
