GIFFORDS: Trump protects Elon Musk while hundreds of kids are killed
WASHINGTON — Following the creation of a new law enforcement Tesla task force, GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, called on President Donald Trump and Kash Patel, the FBI director and acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), to protect American children from gun violence and crime. On Monday, the FBI confirmed the creation of a new FBI and ATF task force in response to 48 reported instances of vandalism of Tesla vehicles and charging stations.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, nearly 3,000 Americans have been killed in gun homicides or unintentional shootings this year, including 272 children. Despite the raging gun violence epidemic, it was reported Patel is seeking to shrink the ATF—the federal agency responsible for enforcing gun laws—by a whopping 1,000 agents, more than a third of its total law enforcement staff.
“Based on his administration’s initial actions, Donald Trump and Kash Patel seem to care more about cars than murdered kids. The weakening of our gun laws while buttressing Elon Musk’s bottom line is what happens when the White House listens to CEOs instead of parents and teachers,” said GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown. “Vandalism is wrong and it needs to stop. But guns now kill more than 46,000 Americans every year—our communities cannot afford for this administration to go easy on gun crime. Rich people’s cars don’t deserve more protection from the government than our kids do.”
