100 days into the 119th Congress, leaders fail to act on gun violence

Republican leadership instead has pushed forward a concealed carry mandate

WASHINGTON GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement ahead of tomorrow, which marks the 100th day of the 119th Congress without any action from the Republican majority to address gun violence.

“Gun violence is the number one killer of kids and young people in the United States — every single member of Congress should be working to address it. Instead, we’re 100 days into the 119th Congress and Republican leadership has done nothing to tackle this public health crisis,” said GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown. “Rather than taking action to prevent gun violence and crime, they’ve pushed forward a concealed carry mandate in the House, a bill that would allow anyone to carry a hidden gun in public. In addition to being a dramatic infringement on states’ rights, it would enable gun crime, and be disastrous to law enforcement safety in our country. Our country needs real leaders who are willing to address one of Americans’ top concerns: their safety.”
