GIFFORDS statement ahead of 2025 NRA annual meeting

WASHINGTON GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement ahead of the 2025 NRA Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.

“The NRA is in a downward spiral, and the White House has taken notice. The NRA is holding its annual meeting in Atlanta this week, and for the first time in years, Donald Trump won’t be speaking at it. In fact, the NRA has canceled its entire leadership conference because elected leaders no longer want to be seen with the NRA—its years of corruption and extremism have caught up with it,” said GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown.  “The NRA doesn’t speak for gun-owning Americans. The overwhelming majority of gun owners are sick and tired of the extremist gun lobby and support commonsense measures like background checks on all gun sales. GIFFORDS is proud to offer gun owners an alternative in Gun Owners for Safety, which prioritizes everyday Americans over gun industry CEOs.”
