GIFFORDS condemns Ninth Circuit decision striking down background checks for ammunition
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS Law Center, the legal arm of the national gun violence prevention group GIFFORDS, released the following statement after the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court’s ruling striking down California’s law requiring background checks to purchase ammunition.
“This ruling is absurd and dangerous. Without ammunition background checks, there will be nothing to stop criminals from stockpiling ammunition from unknowing dealers. This decision from the Ninth Circuit goes against legal precedent and the will of Californians, who voted for it nearly two-to-one when the measure was on the ballot. We know background checks save lives. GIFFORDS expects the state to pursue all options to restore this law,” said GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown.
