GIFFORDS PAC endorses 13 challengers running to flip key VA House seats
WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, endorsed 13 challenger candidates running to flip crucial seats in the Virginia House of Delegates and expand the gun safety majority in the chamber. As 1,200 Virginians lose their lives to gun violence each year, GIFFORDS PAC is proud to endorse candidates committed to saving lives and taking on the incumbent Republicans who refuse to stand up for the safety of their constituents.
“Virginia has made remarkable strides toward gun safety in recent years, but there is still more work to be done. By electing these courageous candidates to office, we can continue to push to get gun safety measures across the finish line once and for all,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Families across Virginia are worried about crime, rising extremism, and political violence in their schools, workplaces, and communities. It’s time we send new champions like the candidates we’re endorsing today to Richmond to put the interests of their communities first — with them leading the way, we know that progress is possible.”
Today, GIFFORDS PAC proudly endorsed the following candidates:
- Elizabeth Guzman (HD-22)
- John McAuliff (HD-30)
- Lily Franklin (HD-41)
- May Nivar (HD-57)
- Stacey Carroll (HD-64)
- Nicole Cole (HD-66)
- Mark Downey (HD-69)
- Jessica Anderson (HD-71)
- Leslie Mehta (HD-73)
- Lindsey Dougherty (HD-75)
- Kimberly Pope Adams (HD-82)
- Virgil Thornton (HD-86)
- Kacey Carnegie (HD-89)
In 2024, GIFFORDS Law Center gave Virginia a B+ on its annual gun safety scorecard. While Virginia legislators have taken important steps toward protecting communities across the Commonwealth from violence, there is still progress to be made. With a majority of leaders focused on gun safety, elected officials in the Commonwealth will be able to close ghost gun loopholes that still allow criminals to access unregulated, untraceable firearms and hold the gun industry accountable by removing undue immunity for gun manufactures and giving gun violence survivors and victims families the chance to seek their day in court.
