NEW: GIFFORDS releases most comprehensive victim compensation guide for New York State

WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS Law Center, the legal arm of the national gun violence prevention group GIFFORDS, announced the release of the Advocate’s Legal Guide to New York Victim Compensation, the most comprehensive in the state of New York. The guide was crafted to assist lawyers, providers, advocates, and violence interventionists as they seek compensation and benefits on behalf of violent crime survivors. It was developed following an extensive legal investigation of the New York Office of Victim Services.

“Often, victim compensation programs are the least accessible to those who need benefits the most. This guide is an important tool in remedying that,” said Robert Gipson, Litigation and Survivor Advocacy Fellow at GIFFORDS Law Center. “Those who have experienced gun violence and other violent crimes need critical support as they work to rebuild their lives. Legal representatives and advocates with full knowledge of survivor entitlements are essential to ensuring healing and justice are reached.”
