GIFFORDS remembers lives lost in the Dayton, OH mass shooting

WASHINGTON GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement honoring victims of the mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio, which took place six years ago this Monday. The gunman shot and killed nine people and injured 17 in less than a minute, using a stabilizing brace and a 100-round drum magazine.

“I’m thinking of the victims and survivors of this horrible attack, and my heart is with Dayton and their families,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Unspeakable violence like this is still far too common in our nation. Only days ago, four people were killed when a shooter—who similarly to the Dayton shooter, also used a stabilizing brace—drove from Nevada to New York with weapons he should never have had, and which commonsense gun laws could have prevented access to. It is far past time for our leaders to act and ensure tragedies like these can never happen again.”
