WIN: GIFFORDS applauds Third Circuit decision upholding New Jersey’s gun safety laws that were passed post-Bruen
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS Law Center, the legal arm of the national gun violence prevention group GIFFORDS, released the following statement after the Third Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the majority of New Jersey’s gun safety laws on the carrying of concealed firearms while litigation challenging those laws continues. GIFFORDS Law Center filed an amicus brief in support of New Jersey’s laws. The laws were enacted following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen, which disrupted the standards that states like New Jersey used to evaluate applications to carry guns in public.
“After the Supreme Court’s extreme Bruen decision in 2022, states like New Jersey acted quickly to ensure their citizens were protected from gun violence and their proven gun laws remained in place. We are thrilled that the Third Circuit has preliminarily ruled that the majority of the laws are consistent with the Second Amendment,” said GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown. “We know that states like New Jersey with effective gun laws have less gun violence. This is a critical decision that will keep New Jerseyans safe. We applaud Attorney General Matthew Platkin and his team for their tireless efforts and effective advocacy in ensuring this victory.”
