GIFFORDS PAC endorses Governor Tim Walz for reelection

WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, endorsed Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for reelection. Former Congresswoman Giffords and Governor Walz met and became friends as freshmen members of Congress in 2007. Over the years, they have worked closely together to pass gun safety legislation in Minnesota, including this past fall to advocate for a gun safety package.

“Tim Walz has been a champion for all Americans since our days together in Congress, and as governor, he’s proven that leadership and courage from elected officials can save lives from gun violence. He’s taken on the gun lobby and won — passing universal background checks and extreme risk protection orders that Minnesotans demanded. Tim understands that protecting our communities and respecting the Second Amendment go hand in hand. I’m honored to support his reelection and look forward to continuing to fight for a safer Minnesota in the years to come,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

“Gabby Giffords embodies extraordinary courage and a lifelong commitment to keeping our communities safe. I’m honored to have her endorsement. Here in Minnesota, we’ve shown that when we come together, we can pass real, life-saving reforms — from universal background checks to extreme risk protection orders. I’m committed to building on that progress and continuing to work with anyone willing to put safety ahead of politics,” said Governor Tim Walz.

Governor Walz’s life and career have been defined by service to others — from his 24 years in the Army National Guard to his time as a high school geography teacher and football coach, as well as in elected office as both a six-term member of the U.S. House of Representatives and as the 41st governor of Minnesota.

As a responsible gun owner and an avid hunter, Governor Walz has a deep respect for the Second Amendment and the right of any Minnesotan to own a firearm. Governor Walz is also a parent who understands that we can and must do more to keep every child safe. He’s always worked to strike a balance on policy that has helped chart a new way forward for gun owners and public safety advocates alike.

In 2023, Governor Walz took decisive action and got universal background checks and red flag laws passed in Minnesota. Following devastating tragedies in Minnesota in 2025 — including the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School and the assassination of former Speaker Melissa Hortman — Governor Walz has worked across the aisle to advance bipartisan measures on school safety and allocate funding for additional mental health resources and law enforcement. He’s also continued to prioritize closing the ghost gun loophole and banning assault weapons, large-capacity magazines and binary triggers.

If reelected, he’ll continue to lift up communities across Minnesota and deliver the better, stronger state free from gun violence that the next generation deserves.
