Giffords Endorses Terry McAuliffe for Virginia Governor
Washington, DC — Giffords, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, announced its endorsement of Terry McAuliffe for Governor of Virginia.
“We are extremely proud to endorse proven gun safety champion Terry McAuliffe to be the Commonwealth’s next Governor,” said former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. “We know that former Governor McAuliffe is a strong leader with the courage to take on the gun lobby and advance gun violence prevention measures that make Virginia’s communities safer. If elected to another term, he will lead the fight to make Virginia a leader in gun safety and protect Virginians from senseless gun violence.”
“Over the past eight years, Virginia Democrats have made tremendous progress in passing life-saving gun violence prevention legislation and have put a stop to dangerous legislation that would put more guns on our streets,” said Terry McAuliffe. “We must continue to move Virginia forward and keep our communities safe from gun violence. Giffords has been an incredible partner in the fight to end gun violence, and I am honored to receive their endorsement. I look forward to working together so we can combat gun violence and continue strengthening laws in Virginia.”
As the Governor of Virginia from 2014 to 2018, Terry spent his term creating jobs, restoring voting rights, and fighting for safer gun laws in his home state. The former governor has been an effective leader since entering politics in 1980. After he got a job on President Jimmy Carter’s campaign at just 23 years old, Terry went on to serve as co-chair of President Bill Clinton’s campaigns, as well as chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
As he runs for a second term this cycle, McAuliffe has a clear vision for a safer Virginia. Proudly the first southern governor to be elected with an “F” rating from the NRA, the former Governor proposed over a dozen commonsense gun safety bills throughout his tenure. Giffords is proud to endorse Terry McAuliffe for Governor of Virginia in 2021.
