GIFFORDS Responds to Trump’s NRA Address

“Electing Donald Trump would put the NRA back in the Oval Office and more guns on our streets.”

Washington DC — Today, GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, responded to former president Donald Trump’s address to the National Rifle Association’s Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

“Tonight’s speech made clear that electing Donald Trump would put the NRA back in the Oval Office and more guns on our streets. When Trump was in office, he gave the gun lobby power over America’s public safety, and gun homicides skyrocketed by 34%,” said GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown. “Whether it’s daily, community violence or the constant threat of mass shootings, protecting Americans requires a president who has the courage to stand up to the gun lobby. Donald Trump has already failed that test.”

“We already know there are popular, proven solutions and we just need leaders with the courage to act. That’s why we’re with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, who have led the most pro–gun safety administration in history,” Brown added.

GIFFORDS Gun Owner for Safety, Donald Gaffney, wrote an op-ed in PennLive ahead of the speech, rebuking former President Trump. GIFFORDS also released a video highlighting how Trump has failed to protect Americans and has only sided with the gun lobby.
