GIFFORDS PAC Condemns State Rep. Rob Mecuri for Voting against Ghost Gun Bill

Washington DC — GIFFORDS PAC, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, condemned Pennsylvania State Representative Rob Mecuri for voting against a critical bill to ban dangerous “ghost guns” on Wednesday. Ghost guns are popular among criminals because they are completely untraceable and available without a background check.

The bill, which passed the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on a bipartisan vote, would require a background check and gun manufacturers to issue serial numbers on ghost gun kits. State Representative Mecuri is challenging US Congressman Chris Deluzio for Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District.

Vanessa Gonzalez, GIFFORDS Vice President of Government and Political Affairs

“State Representative Rob Mecuri’s vote against public safety in Pennsylvania should make it absolutely clear that Congressman Chris Deluzio is once again the right choice for voters this November. Pennsylvanians are looking for authentic leadership against gun violence, and Mecuri won’t rise to the occasion. Build-it-yourself ghost gun kits have terrorized Pennsylvania communities and driven a spike in crime. When confronted with the opportunity to do the right thing for the people who voted him in office, Mecuri instead followed the gun lobby’s lead. But Congressman Deluzio hasn’t turned his back on Pennsylvania. In Washington, he prioritized the safety of his constituents and championed measures to keep dangerous weapons away from those who pose a risk to themselves or others. He’ll continue to lead on this issue when he defeats State Representative Mercuri this November.”

GIFFORDS PAC endorsed Congressman Deluzio in February and in his last election in 2022.
