GUN SAFETY VICTORY: Jeff Jackson elected as North Carolina attorney general
WASHINGTON –GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, congratulated Attorney General-elect Jeff Jackson on his election win. In October, Congresswoman Giffords joined Jackson on the campaign trail.
“Congratulations to Attorney General-elect Jeff Jackson on his election as North Carolina’s attorney general. Throughout his distinguished career of public service, Jackson has consistently demonstrated a commitment to protecting North Carolinians. His proven track record of confronting gun violence and advocating for lifesaving policies makes him an exceptional choice to serve as the state’s top law enforcement official. North Carolina voters have chosen a dedicated public servant who will work tirelessly to defend the rights and security of all residents,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.
Having been trained on a number of firearms in the U.S. Army, Jackson knows that weapons of war have no place in our schools or on our streets. After the shootings in Parkland, Florida, Jackson introduced the Safer Schools Healthier Kids Act in the North Carolina Senate, which included provisions to create extreme risk protection orders, ban the sale of assault weapons and long guns to minors in his state, outlaw bump stocks and trigger cranks and require licensing for gun sales to adults. In the U.S. House, Jackson has been proud to serve as the vice chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and has supported a number of commonsense gun safety bills—including safe storage measures like Ethan’s Law and legislation to expand background checks to all gun sales. As attorney general, he will go after organized crime that traffics guns through North Carolina, crack down on ghost guns and continue to advocate for commonsense solutions to bring an end to our country’s epidemic of gun violence.
