GIFFORDS endorses Cory Booker for reelection to U.S. Senate in New Jersey
WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, endorsed Senator Cory Booker in his reelection bid as he seeks a third term representing New Jersey in the Senate. Throughout his career, Senator Booker has fought for the children and families of his state and been a steadfast gun safety champion—and next November, his victory will be essential to reestablishing a gun safety majority in the chamber.
“Senator Cory Booker is a bold leader who has never wavered from his commitment to protect New Jerseyans from crime and senseless violence,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Through decades of dedicated public service—from Newark to Washington—my friend Cory has proven time and again that he will always fight back against those who put the gun lobby’s interests over our children’s lives and stand strong against right-wing attempts to undermine public safety. Together, we’ll work to save lives and continue his important efforts to interrupt the cycles of violence plaguing our cities. In this critical moment, we need his pragmatic approach to solving issues and powerful voice in the Senate more than ever, and I am proud to endorse him for reelection.”
“Gun violence is a life-shattering scourge on our society that I have fought against throughout my public service, from the streets of Newark when I served as mayor to the United States Senate,” said Senator Cory Booker. “Winning this battle is personal to me, which is why I am honored to have earned the endorsement of GIFFORDS PAC, an organization that is on the frontlines of the effort to end this crisis. I look forward to continuing to work with them to rally more Americans to this cause, to find and implement both commonsense and innovative solutions that will stop gun violence before another senseless tragedy occurs—and I know that together we will not rest in this effort until our neighborhoods, our schools, and our communities can truly be safe.”
Senator Booker has served the public for more than 20 years, first as a tenant lawyer in the Central Ward and a member of the Newark City Council, then as mayor of Newark, where he made crime reduction a core pillar of his work. In 2013, Senator Booker was elected to Congress, where his advocacy has been essential in the passage of landmark bills like the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and the introduction of key measures like the senator’s own Break the Cycle of Violence Act—which would provide desperately needed federal funding to lifesaving community violence intervention programs. In Washington, Senator Booker will continue to champion commonsense gun safety measures like universal background checks, red flag laws, and bans on dangerous hardware like assault weapons and large-capacity magazines when reelected, while remaining laser-focused on making New Jersey a safe place for all.
