Make Your Voice Heard: Join A Gun Safety Town Hall
We’re hitting the road!
As Congress debates the background checks bill on Capitol HIll, we’re hitting the road to talk with Americans about gun safety. We’re joining forces with our friends from March for Our Lives, Town Hall Project, TOMS, and Levi’s to hold a series of Gun Safety Town Halls and rally support around H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019.
Our first event in Denver, Colorado packed the Washington Street Community Center with more than 100 community members who gathered to hear from—and ask questions of—gun violence prevention experts, local advocates, and Congressman Joe Neguse about steps we must take to make our country safer.
One of our panel participants, Tom Mauser, lost his son in the Columbine massacre 20 years ago. Since then, Tom has dedicated his life to preventing future tragedies. He told the crowd that he wears Daniel’s shoes as a reminder of why this fight is so important.
Student activists asked questions of Congressman Joe Neguse and community members asked Giffords Managing Director Robin Lloyd about the details of the Bipartisan Background Checks Act. At the end of the gathering, the group discussed how best to take action before the background checks bill comes up for a vote.
Our event in Denver was an inspiring reminder of what we can accomplish by coming together in our neighborhoods and speaking with one another and our leaders.
