Born and raised in Saginaw, Chedrick Greene has always put the needs of others first: He served his county overseas, he served his community as a fire captain, and he served his family as a son, brother, and father. During his 30-year career of decorated service with the US Marine Corps Reserve, Greene worked in a dozen nations, including on active deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Since returning home, he’s been a force for change at the state level, working as a district aide in the Michigan Senate and as a two-term appointee on the Statewide Housing Partnership under the Michigan State Housing Development Authority. In doing so, he’s gained a thorough understanding of the pressing issues facing Michigan families—and now, he’s stepping up once again to make their lives better and keep our communities safe by running for the state senate in a must-win seat.
Like many Michiganders, Greene knows that gun violence has uprooted the lives of too many victims and families across the Great Lakes State. With the fate of our gun safety majority on the line in Lansing, he’s determined to take further action to strengthen Michigan’s gun laws. As the vice president of his local Crimestoppers chapter, Greene knows that public safety is not a partisan issue and that we must end our epidemic of gun violence with a public health approach. If elected, he’s determined to better fund lifesaving community violence intervention programs doing the hard work in cities and towns across the state to interrupt cycles of violence, while also providing law enforcement with the tools they need to prevent and prosecute acts of gun violence. Greene will fight to keep dangerous weapons, like untraceable ghost guns, off of Michigan’s streets and always stand up to the gun industry and its dangerous rhetoric.
Gun safety champions across Michigan have made tremendous progress in building a safer future in recent years—passing important legislation to expand background checks and implement needed red flag laws—but there is still so much to do. The outcome of this special election will determine the balance of power in the Michigan Senate, and it’s imperative that we send Chedrick Greene to Lansing to buoy our gun safety majority and continue building on this progress. With him helping lead the way, a safer future for families across the 35th District is within reach.
