Henrico County’s Commonwealth Attorney Shannon Taylor has spent her life protecting people, no matter their politics. As a lifelong Virginian and the first woman ever to serve in her role, Taylor has been committed to keeping children and families across her community safe from the things that harm them most, like gun violence, simply because it’s the right thing to do. Now, she’s stepping up again to run for Congress in a battleground district. In such a divided time for the nation, she knows that her constituents need a leader who will not only always put their needs first, but will win a competitive race—something she’s done over and over again, becoming the first Democrat to win her current seat in over 20 years and subsequently being reelected three times.
For Taylor, ending gun violence is not just a campaign talking point or an optimistic goal. It’s something she’s been working day in and day out to do for years. In her current capacity in Henrico County, Taylor worked with local legislators to pass a safe storage law after a young teen used an unsecured gun to shoot a 13-year-old girl on her way home from school—turning tragedy into tangible action. In Congress, Taylor will continue to do just that at the national level by fighting to implement universal background checks, ban the dangerous, untraceable ghost guns being used in crimes across the country, and disarm domestic abusers. She’ll also make meaningful investments in both community violence intervention programs and in local law enforcement to ensure that we can successfully end cycles of violence and curb gun crime.
In 2025, Virginians turned out in massive numbers to make their voices heard in statewide and downballot elections, sending a record number of gun safety champions to offices across the Commonwealth. In 2026, they have the chance to repeat this feat by sending a new generation of committed leaders in the fight to Congress—starting with Shannon Taylor. In ways big and small, she’s proven that she’ll always prioritize public safety and be the advocate we need pushing to create a better, safer future for our children. With her leading the way on gun safety in Washington DC, that dream will be closer in reach than ever before.
