GIFFORDS PAC Endorses Angela Alsobrooks for US Senate

WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, endorsed Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks for the United States Senate. County Executive Alsobrooks’ success in this critically important race will be crucial to maintaining a gun safety majority in the U.S. Senate this November and protecting communities across Maryland from violence. If elected, County Executive Alsobrooks would be the fourth Black woman to serve in the United States Senate.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords

“Angela knows that the daily gun violence plaguing Maryland communities is unacceptable and unconscionable. In her years of public service, Angela has worked tirelessly at every level of government to bring about real change in her community and create a safer future for the next generation. Strong women get things done, and I know she has the grit and tenacity needed to make progress on gun safety because her track record of reducing crime speaks for itself. I’m proud to support Angela in this must-win race — and together, I know we can get universal background checks across the finish line, allocate desperately needed funding to violence intervention programs and take on the gun lobby’s dangerous tactics once and for all. With so much on the line this fall, Marylanders must send Angela Alsobrooks to the U.S. Senate — lives depend on it.”

County Executive Angela Alsobrooks

“I began my career as the first full-time domestic violence prosecutor in the Prince George’s State’s Attorney’s office and have always focused on protecting the victims of domestic violence. I saw the impact that access to guns had on domestic disputes and understand deeply what must be done to take guns out of our communities. As State’s Attorney, I oversaw a 50% reduction in violent crime and again worked to tackle the proliferation of guns across our community. In the Senate, I’ll continue that fight to make sure every child, every mother, every father, every Marylander can both feel safe and be safe in their neighborhoods, in their schools, in their grocery stores, in their places of worship…the list goes on. I’ll work to eliminate the filibuster and pass an assault weapons ban, pass real background checks, and hold these gun companies accountable.”

Throughout her career serving the people of Prince George’s County, County Executive Alsobrooks has consistently put public safety first — from making crucial investments in violence intervention measures as county executive to testifying in support of critical gun safety legislation at the state level. In her prior role as state’s attorney, she oversaw a 50% reduction in violent crime, and in the U.S. Senate, she will be a strong advocate for lifesaving measures like universal background checks and red flag laws.
