GIFFORDS endorses Sherrod Brown in comeback bid for US Senate in Ohio
WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, endorsed former Senator Sherrod Brown as he mounts a campaign to return to the Senate in 2026. Throughout his career, Senator Brown has proven himself to be a seasoned and dedicated public servant who has spent decades putting the safety of Ohioans first. Next November, his election to the Senate will be crucial to reestablishing a majority of gun safety leaders in the chamber and paving the way for continued progress.
“I’ve been proud to call Sherrod Brown a friend for many years. He’s been a fighter for Ohio families and a champion for safer communities, and he knows that now is not the time to step away. With gun violence wreaking havoc in schools and neighborhoods, and partisan lawmakers defunding crucial violence prevention programs at every turn, I’m so glad to see him stepping back into the arena and taking a stand for his state in this critical moment,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Right now, Ohioans need strong, reliable champions pushing for progress on their behalf again—They have that leader in Sherrod Brown, and I am proud to endorse him in this race.”
“I’ll never back down from the gun lobby or any special interest group that jeopardizes the safety of our kids, workers, and communities,” said former Senator Sherrod Brown. “We know commonsense solutions are possible—solutions that both protect our communities and respect Ohioans’ constitutional rights. I appreciate GIFFORDS PAC’s support in this race, and I look forward to continuing our work together to stop gun violence.”
Senator Sherrod Brown spent decades serving the Buckeye State including as Ohio’s secretary of state, through seven terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, and most recently during his 18 years in the U.S. Senate. A tried and true gun safety champion, Senator Brown has consistently supported efforts to enact commonsense measures like safe storage requirements and extreme risk protection order laws. He also knows how crucial it is to secure funding for community violence intervention programs that aim to stop gun violence before it ever happens, and in 2022, he cast a key vote on the passage of the landmark Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. If sent back to the Senate, he will continue to be a champion for additional commonsense gun safety measures.
