Gabby Giffords remembers victims of the Club Q shooting
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement recognizing three years since the shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs. Five people were killed and 25 were injured during the hate-motivated attack, which was carried out with an AR-15–style rifle. In 2024, there were 1,950 anti-LGBTQ+ motivated hate crimes.
”Today, I’m thinking of the victims who were unfairly taken from their families and the survivors whose lives were changed forever. Our lawmakers have a crucial responsibility to protect our most vulnerable groups, and the LGBTQ+ community is no exception,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “This horrible shooting occurred on the eve of Transgender Day of Remembrance, and two of the five lives lost were members of the trans community. In a time where transphobia is being normalized by many, including our president, it’s more important than ever that we fight for commonsense gun laws that protect everyone, especially from attacks driven by hate.”
