GIFFORDS PAC endorses Eileen Higgins for Miami mayor
WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, endorsed former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins for mayor of Miami, Florida.
“Comissioner Higgins has spent her career working tirelessly for Miami residents, and I know that as mayor, she will dedicate herself to creating a city free from gun violence,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Public safety and crime are top concerns for Florida families. Fortunately, we know what the solutions to gun violence are, and in Commissioner Higgins, we have a champion with the vision and determination to make those solutions a reality. We’re proud to endorse Commissioner Higgins for mayor of Miami and look forward to working with her to save lives across the Sunshine State.”
“Gun violence has stolen too many lives in our community, and for years I’ve stood alongside survivors, parents, and advocates who refuse to accept this crisis as inevitable. That’s why I am deeply honored to receive GIFFORDS’ endorsement in my campaign to become the next Mayor of Miami,” said Commissioner Higgins. “Safety is a fundamental freedom, and as Mayor, I will work every day to make Miami safer by advancing proven, common-sense solutions that save lives. Together, we can build a future where every child, every family, and every neighborhood is free from the fear of gun violence.”
Former Commissioner Higgins has an extensive record fighting gun violence in Miami-Dade County, including as a consistent partner to our first state-based program, GIFFORDS Florida, and as a longtime volunteer with Moms Demand Action. As a local official, Higgins helped fund and launch Miami-Dade’s Group Violence Intervention (GVI) program, a nationally recognized model that has proven to reduce shootings and homicides. She has also worked to support youth employment programs, funded the creation of safe community spaces, and advocated for initiatives focused on building trust between police and residents in neighborhoods most affected by gun violence. As mayor, she will continue to fight for commonsense gun safety solutions and restore trust in City Hall by prioritizing the needs of Miami residents in every neighborhood.
