Gabby Giffords remembers Parkland, eight years later

WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement honoring the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, which took place nearly eight years ago in Parkland, Florida. Seventeen people were killed and 17 more were injured when the shooter opened fire.

“The horrible shooting that took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School eight years ago changed our nation and the Parkland community forever,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Over the past eight years I have met with many survivors and families of loved ones who were killed that day. I am grieving for them and honoring the 17 people whose lives were stolen too soon. This shooting took so much, but it also gave us young leaders who are still pushing for a nation free from gun violence. I am proud to stand with them.”
