GIFFORDS honors victims of the Michigan State University shooting three years later
WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement honoring the victims of the Michigan State University shooting that took place three years ago tomorrow. Three students lost their lives in the shooting and five others were injured.
“Today, I am honoring the lives of the three students who were taken from us far too soon by a single act of horrible gun violence,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “School should be a safe place for students and faculty to work, study and live in peace, not a place where they fear for their lives. My heart remains with the survivors and the entire Spartan community, who I know will mourn that day for years to come. GIFFORDS will never stop fighting for a safer Michigan.”
Following the shootings at Michigan State University and Oxford High School, GIFFORDS worked closely with state legislators to pass lifesaving gun laws, including background checks on all gun sales, an extreme risk protection order law, and a safe storage law. Michigan currently has a B- on the GIFFORDS Annual Gun Law Scorecard.
