GIFFORDS PAC endorses Tina Kotek for Oregon governor
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement today endorsing Tina Kotek in her reelection campaign for governor of Oregon.
“Governor Kotek has proven that she has the track record to protect Oregonians from gun violence. Under her leadership as speaker of the Oregon House and for the last four years as governor, Oregon has advanced important and commonsense gun safety measures, including universal background checks, red flag laws and bans on deadly ghost guns,” said Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “But the battle isn’t over yet. By reelecting Governor Kotek this fall, Oregonians can have confidence that their leadership will continue to prioritize their safety, while taking on the gun lobby.”
“Gun violence is preventable, and I’m proud of the work we’ve done to lead with common-sense, evidence-based solutions that keep families safe,” said Governor Tina Kotek. “From passing universal background checks to banning ghost guns and rapid-fire devices, we’ve taken real action to save lives and strengthen our communities. I’m grateful for the support of GIFFORDS PAC and committed to continuing this work together.”
Since assuming her current office in 2022, Governor Tina Kotek has successfully led the fight to ban ghost guns and prohibit the sale of bump stocks and rapid-fire devices. She’s also expanded municipalities’ ability to restrict firearms on public property, like school board meetings. Previously, while serving as Oregon’s speaker of the house, she worked to implement universal background checks on gun purchases, safe storage requirements and close dangerous loopholes that allowed individuals who have committed domestic abuse to access firearms. If reelected, Governor Kotek will continue to strengthen her state’s gun laws, saving lives from senseless violence.
